Event Name:
New Volunteer Training #1
Event Type:
Volunteer Events
Description:
Volunteers are the heart of Hospice!
Hospice knows the value of volunteers. We know the value of the volunteer who picks up and delivers a much-needed medication. We know the value of the volunteer who sits with a patient, attentively listening to World War II stories. We know the value of the volunteer who puts together our charts. Every one of our volunteers shows us the value of volunteering in many, many ways.
Whatever their role - providing information at health fairs, running errands, or visiting patients with therapy pets - hospice volunteers share in the very personal journey with patients, family members, friends, and staff. There is a wide range of volunteer tasks.
Every volunteer receives 24 hours of training, learning the hospice philosophy, concepts of death and dying, techniques of communication with patients and families, and policies and procedures of Hospice of Medina County. In addition, three hours of continuing education are required each year.
Many of our volunteers are loved ones who want to "give back" after seeing a family member or friend being cared for by hospice. Their time is given in memory of a loved one. They become a living legacy of caring and love for patients and of healing for the volunteer. Our volunteers have expressed to us the enrichment and satisfaction they receive from volunteering. Due to steadily rising gas prices, we give a great effort to keeping the volunteer assignments close to home.
The next new volunteer training class is scheduled for Thursdays, September 4 - October 23, 2008, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. For additional information and to schedule an interview, contact Wendy Klubnik, Volunteer Liaison, at 330-723-2340, ext. 130 or email
wklubnik@hospiceofmedina.org
Hospice volunteers are love made visible and we wouldn't be Hospice of Medina County without them.
